With the financing of OP Corporate Bank plc “Liepājas enerģija” has built a biomass boiler house

“Liepājas enerģija,” supported by €2.5 million in long-term financing from OP Corporate Bank plc’s Latvian branch, has successfully completed the construction of a modern biomass boiler house in Priekule, South Kurzeme. The new and modern heating infrastructure is already delivering sustainable, reliable, and cost-efficient heat to residents for the current heating season.

Funding was allocated both for ensuring the construction process and for refinancing the costs incurred by the project. The aim of the project is to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly energy supply in Priekule while strengthening the development of heating infrastructure outside major cities.

“The transition to renewable energy resources is a key prerequisite for Latvia’s sustainable development, and the Priekule biomass boiler house is a good example of how modern solutions can improve residents’ everyday lives. We appreciate the contribution of "Liepājas enerģija" in developing environmentally friendly solutions beyond large cities and are pleased to support a project that promotes energy efficiency and strengthens local infrastructure,” emphasised Elmārs Prikšāns, Head of OP Corporate Bank plc Latvian branch.

Priekule has become the first town outside Liepāja where “Liepājas enerģija” will ensure heating supply. On 10 December, the new biomass heating facility and heat networks were opened, which will provide centralised heating to residents already in this heating season. The new facility is fuelled by wood chips – a renewable, locally available and climate-friendly energy resource. This solution enables Priekule to obtain a sustainable, modern and economical heating system. The new boiler house complex includes two biomass boiler containers with a total capacity of 1.9 MW, a fully enclosed wood chip storage facility and ash containers, as well as a modern, automated heat energy production system. The project was implemented in cooperation with “EcoHeat Technologies.”

“The company’s goal is to create a modern, efficient and environmentally friendly centralised heating system based on sustainable and renewable resources. We are purposefully developing solutions that reduce environmental impact and promote responsible resource use, which is why the Priekule project is an important step towards the company’s green thinking and regional development,” explained Jānis Jansons, Chairman of the Board of “Liepājas enerģija” at the opening event.
