Questions and Answers

Why are these changes necessary?
These changes allow for more flexible use of digital solutions while ensuring the legal validity and security of documents. This is especially useful for customers whose representatives are, for example, Finnish citizens or companies with a parent company in Finland.

What is a qualified electronic signature?
A Qualified Electronic Signature (QES):

  • most commonly used in Latvia;
  • legally equivalent to a handwritten signature;
  • issued using secure means (eID card, Smart-ID qualified version).

What is an advanced electronic signature?
An Advanced Electronic Signature (AdES):

  • more commonly used in Finland;
  • legally binding, but not always equivalent to a handwritten signature;
  • typically used via internet banking or other authentication tools.

What do these amendments mean for customers who have been signing documents with a qualified electronic signature?
These amendments do not affect customers using a qualified electronic signature. The bank will continue to accept documents signed with a qualified electronic signature without any changes.

What changes for customers who do not have access to a qualified electronic signature?
If a customer does not have access to a qualified electronic signature, the bank may now accept documents signed with an advanced electronic signature. In such cases, the bank will initiate the signing process using a suitable platform, such as Dokobit.
