Liepāja City Building Authority has accepted the newest and environmentally friendly woodchip boiler house of Liepājas enerģija SIA in Liepāja, Slimnīcas iela 2. The new boiler house will provide heat for 844 apartments in 15 apartment buildings, as well as for Liepāja Regional Hospital and one commercial building.

The official opening ceremony of the new boiler house will be held on Tuesday, 17 October at 11:00.

As part of the project “Replacing fossil fuels in Liepāja”, a new woodchip heating plant has been constructed, combining the heating systems of the existing stand-alone gas boiler houses (at Grīzupes iela 89, Slimnīcas iela 15 and Slimnīcas iela 25) into a single district heating network.

“In a short period of time, extensive and well-thought-out work has been invested so that in the new heating season, the company’s clients can receive heat produced from environmentally friendly fuel – woodchips. The construction of a new and environmentally friendly boiler house reflects the company’s commitment to a sustainable future. This is a step forward for both the environment and our own well-being,” says Jānis Jansons, Chairman of the Management Board of Liepājas enerģija.

The construction work of the boiler house started at the beginning of April, while the rafter celebration was celebrated at the end of June. The design and construction of the boiler house was carried out by UPB AS. The boilers were supplied and installed by AGB Serviss.

The aim of the project “Replacement of fossil fuels in Liepāja” is to promote the use of local renewable energy sources in district heating, to reduce or maintain heating energy costs at the current level, and to improve the efficiency of the boiler house.

The project was implemented with the support of the Cohesion Fund of the European Union. The total investment in the project is EUR 3 million, of which the total eligible expenditure is: EUR 2.916 million Amount of aid: 40.00% of eligible expenditure, up to a maximum of EUR 1.166 million.

OP Corporate Bank plc Latvia Branch also contributed to the project by providing a long-term loan to finance the investment. Elmārs Prikšāns, Head of the OP Corporate Bank plc Latvia Branch: “Security and predictability of heating has become a critical issue, and it needs to be combined with reasonable costs and environmental friendliness.
